Relief organisations TERRA Projekte

The Marburg-based non-profit organisation TERRA Projekte International e.V. has been carrying out humanitarian aid and development cooperation projects worldwide since 1986. Its activities range from classic emergency aid (food, medicines) to reconstruction (schools, health facilities) and long-term development projects (agricultural projects, training and further education programmes).

TERRA Projekte International e.V. firmly believes that local people are the experts in their own lives and therefore know best how to improve their living conditions. The organisation's motto is therefore: 'Helping people to help themselves'.

How the organisation operates

TERRA Projekte International e.V. places great value on personal contact, cultivates relationships at eye level and always endeavours to facilitate a transfer of knowledge through mutual exchange. In doing so, the organisation provides financial support and expertise for a wide range of solutions.

All measures and processes are continuously evaluated by the organisation. The use of customised and locally tested technologies that guarantee the ecological, economic and social success of the project is important. To this end, the organisation's resources are used sparingly, effectively and efficiently.

Focus of work

TERRA's current projects include:

• the fight against FGM (Female genital mutilation) in Sierra Leone and Tanzania
• ongoing support for people in Ukraine
• numerous disaster risk reduction projects in Nepal
• improving living conditions in Syrian refugee camps

and many more. TERRA Projekte International's work is as diverse as the ideas and needs of people around the world.

About the organisation

TERRA Projekte International minimises the number of staff it employs (short-term experts, project coordinators). The organisation is financed by donations, membership fees and grants from public donors (BMZ, Federal Foreign Office) and foundations. As a result, it has a very low administrative cost ratio of less than 7 per cent.

The organisation is a member of PARITÄTISCHEN (LV Hessen) and thus part of the Aktion Deutschland Hilft alliance. It is also a member of VENRO (Association of German Development and Humanitarian Aid Non-governmental Organisations) and the EPN (Development Policy Network Hesse).
