Germany’s Relief Coalition starts a donation appeal for the victims of the flood
Almost one year after the devastating flood in Germany, heavy rainfalls have led to the worst flood in 120 years in large areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Whole cities and villages have been flooded; many communities are completely cut off from the outside world.
The member organizations of Germany’s Relief Coalition are providing emergency aid in the affected areas:
Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund is distributing food, clean water, as well as blankets, sleeping bags, clothing and other urgently needed supplies to families, which have lost their homes in Bosnia and Serbia.
ADRA has sent a German emergency team to Sarajevo and will, for the moment, support affected people in Bosnia with hygiene items, food and clean water.
Islamic Relief Germany is distributing, apart from clean water, tools and headlights to affected people in Bosnia, so they can begin with first repair measures.
Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe is distributing food, clean water, blankets and hygiene items for infants to affected families that have been trapped in their houses by the flood in the Bosnian communities Maglaj and Doboj. In addition the residents of Kakanij and Olovo are receiving water pumps and medicines.
arche noVa will also employ water pumps, generators and drinking water treatment plants in the flooded areas in Bosnia.
World Vision is distributing food, water, hygiene items and water pumps in severly affected Bosnian Roma settlements.
Elderly people are particularly affected by this catastrophe: That’s why HelpAge Germany is directing their aid in Serbia towards older men and women, helping them with clean water and hygiene items.
AWO International, CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg, Malteser International, Johanniter, Terra Tech and Freunde der Erziehungskunst are evaluating the specific necessities and planing additional aid measures.
