action medeor e.V.
For 40 years action medeor, the German medicament relief organisation, has sent basic medicines and medical instruments to the poverty-stricken regions of the world and provides rapid emergency aid and disaster relief in acute situations.
The permanent action medeor stock comprises about 300,000 medicament containers. Necessary medicines and instruments can therefore be packed and dispatched within the shortest time.
During the war in Iraq, action medeor was able with local partners to provide urgently needed medical material to several hospitals in Baghdad, Basra and among the Kurds in the north. When at the end of 2003 an earthquake devastated the Iranian city of Bam, the first deliveries of aid were packed and dispatched within 24 hours.
In cooperation with religious and private organisations on the spot, and with membership of religious orders and private initiatives, action medeor now supplies about 9,000 health centres in 123 countries. All medicines are produced in large volumes by well known European manufacturers to enable high quality at a simultaneously low price. action medeor sends the aid at cost price or as a donation.
Further focal points are the execution of action medeor’s our own health projects, pharmaceutical consultative expertise and the setting up of local medicine-production plants and distribution points. Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS are central themes in the organisation’s project work.
It is the aim of action medeor to ensure rapid access to reasonably priced and effective medicines for as many people as possible.
